(chinadaily.com.cn)Updated: 2018-07-25

The Economic and Information Commission of Wuxi City recently released a three-year (2018-2020) development plan to promote the construction of a smart city in Wuxi.

The Wuxi Promote New Smart City Construction Three Years (2018-2020) Action Plan sets up new development goals to build the city into a highly efficient, energetic, safe and ordered city where human life and nature coexist harmoniously and government runs effectively.

Wuxi has been an outstanding smart city in China. In 2012, it entered the country's first batch of pilot smart cities. From 2012 to 2015, the city was recognized as China top one smart city by third-party evaluation organizations.

The new development plan is aimed at dealing with the existing problems in smart city construction and to better make use of new technologies. It is based on previous plans by collecting suggestions from 28 departments and units around the city.

According to the plan, by 2020, the city will set up an open and sharing big data application system and a series of smart systems covering people's lives, urban management, industry, sense network and information security, and will continue to maintain a leading position in terms of smart city construction in China.

Compared to previous plans, the three-year plan attaches more importance to data application in urban management. It will make more efforts to collect and share data and create overall strategies to manage administrative and social data resources, aiming to create a new drive to boost development in all walks of life.

An official from the commission explained that the city would prioritize the establishment of an urban big data center, a public credit platform and public data sharing platform and set up five basic databases for population, legal entities, natural resources and spatial geography, social credit and electronic certificates and licenses.

The development plan emphasizes the application of information technology to promote public service levels in terms of transportation, sports, culture, tourism, education and pensions. More efforts will also be made to improve people's lives with internet of things (IoT) technology, such as establishing a smart health management system and IoT self-help laundry platform.
