The Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) will work to attract biomedical projects in an effort to build an industrial cluster in the second half of the year, according to a news conference held in the district on Aug 10.

According to officials, projects launched in WND in the first half of the year mainly focused on integrated circuits and biomedicine.

The Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Campus, built by global biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, began operating in April, with 10 Chinese and foreign bio-tech companies setting up operations there.

It will work to bring the latest products from global innovative pharmaceutical companies to local hospitals and patients through AstraZeneca's sales platform in an effort to foster innovative cooperation with Chinese companies.

According to the company, it plans to launch more life science innovation campuses in more cities in the future, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Hangzhou.

GE Healthcare China, a subsidiary of US industrial conglomerate General Electric Co (GE), launched its first batch of high-end ventilators produced in WND on June 22.

The ventilator is known as CARECAPE R860, and it is the most high-end invasive ventilator yet produced by GE Healthcare. It will be used for the treatment of critically ill patients whose respiratory conditions and/or hypoxemia cannot be alleviated through noninvasive ventilation.

With the help of the local government, the Wuxi factory of GE Healthcare China has been upgraded to meet intelligent manufacturing and supply chain reliability requirements in a span of just three months. It is expected to produce 1,000 high-end ventilators per month.
