A gala was staged at Sk Hynix (China) Co, Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year on Feb 8.
The organizer said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's gala was held both online and offline. Over 823,000 viewers watched the event through internet platforms, as well as channels on subways and buses.
WND's government officials sent Chinese New Year wishes to participants and gave holiday presents to representative of WND-based enterprises.
Many participants also made jiaozi, an essential part of a typical Chinese New Year feast, with South-Korean workers from Sk Hynix.
In January, WND released a series of measures to encourage migrant workers to stay in the city where they are working during the Spring Festival, aiming to strengthen its COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control efforts.
The district will also give subsidies to migrant workers who stay in Wuxi and work for three days or more during the Spring Festival, as well as organize cultural and recreational activities during the holiday period for them. Companies are being encouraged to issue red envelopes and make special purchases for workers to celebrate the holiday.
WND is a hub of foreign investment and opening-up in Wuxi. In 2020, in spite of the COVID-19 epidemic, the imports and outputs of WND exceeded $50 billion, accounting for 57.3 percent of the city's total.
Officials said that over 3,000 expats will spend the Spring Festival holiday in WND this year. They will receive care from volunteers in the district.
