Wuxi workshop focuses on media convergence

China's new media applications became more intelligent in 2020 with an increase in real-life applications, according to a blue book released on July 20 in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

The Blue Book of New Media, an annual report on the development of new media in China, is edited and compiled by the Institute of Journalism and Communication under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The 2021 book presents a comprehensive overview of the development of new media in China in 2020 and analyzes its impact on society, as well as challenges that need to be addressed.

In 2020, the social service capabilities of new media were significantly enhanced. The role of new media as an important tool for modernizing national governance and enhancing governance capabilities has become more prominent.

It also analyzes hot issues in new media development, such as media integration, long and short video competitions, and livestreams,

Fang Yong, Party secretary of the Institute of Journalism and Communication of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, released the "Media Convergence Communication Evaluation System" at the event.

Fang noted that the establishment of a media-convergence communication evaluation system is conducive to comprehensively assessing the strength and social influence of media and promoting healthy competition.

The Media Convergence (Wuxi) Research and Practice Base of the New Media Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Science was also launched at the event.
