WND continues improving innovative environment

The Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, or WND, has been working to improve its innovative environment over the past three decades, authorities said at a recent news conference.

The WND has ramped up efforts to bring in innovative resources, build major innovation platforms, increase investment in research and development, and accelerate the commercialization of research findings since its establishment 30 years ago.

In 2021, the WND's investment in R&D accounted for 4.6 percent of its GDP, every 10,000 people in the district owned 129.7 patents, and there were 294,000 talents on site.

The WND took the lead in the country in upgrading and transforming industries, phasing out outdated production capacity, building special industrial parks and developing emerging industries.

A modern industrial system featuring IoT and digital industry, integrated circuits, modern service, artificial intelligence, and hydrogen cells has taken shape in the district.

The WND is currently home to more than 1,400 technology enterprises involved in IoT and is listed among the top 10 development zones in China for comprehensive strength in the biological medicine industry.

Over the following years, the WND will rely on its solid industrial foundation, strong capital strength, and competitive innovation capacity to encourage local enterprises to explore digital transformation so as to promote the high-quality development of the industrial economy.

The district will also popularize professional industrial internet platforms to help relevant enterprises better manage equipment, reduce costs, and improve efficiency and product quality.

The energy management platform for industrial parks in the WND, for example, has improved their energy operating efficiency by 15 percent and reduced their energy consumption by 6 percent.
