A delegation led by Taku Shimoda, president of Zacros, visited WND on Aug 26. Founded over a century ago, Zacros is a global leader in functional films. Its first China base, the high-performance liquid container project signed in Osaka this May, is now under construction in WND. Phase I is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2026, with capacity expansion planned for 2028 to establish a comprehensive production layout.
WND and Wuxi Communications Industry Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Aug 23, unveiling three new industrial parks for intelligent equipment, cross-border e-commerce, and aviation services. The event also saw 12 projects signed, spanning the areas of funding cooperation, industrial initiatives, and zone developments.
WND leaders conducted a field study at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University – Wuxi Technology and Innovation Research Institute on Aug 28. Launched on Nov 2, 2023, the institute integrates R&D, the commercialization of research results, incubations, and talent training. It has set up four R&D centers in the fields of laser manufacturing, AI, robotics & manufacturing, and low-altitude economy & unmanned systems. To date, the institute has brought in and cooperated on 16 projects, with seven more underway, and has established four industry-academia platforms.
Jiangsu's first Chocolate Battery Swap Station – built by CATL and State Grid EV Service – has gone live in WND. About the size of a standard shipping container, the station allows drivers to swap EV batteries in just 100 seconds, faster than refueling a gas-powered car.
WND-based Weifu was recognized as a national intelligent manufacturing model enterprise at the 2025 Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions Conference, making it the 4th in the district to earn the honor. WND now leads all county-level regions in China in the number of such enterprises.
The 2025 5G Factory List was recently announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Wuxi Little Swan Electric from WND was selected. The district now boasts four national-level and three provincial-level 5G factories, reflecting the steady progress being made there in digital transformation and smart manufacturing.
The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology recently announced the proposed 2025 appointments of high-level science & technology talent to enterprises. Wuxi has 143 selections, with WND accounting for 37 — the highest among the city's districts. WND will continue deepening collaboration between universities, research institutes, and local enterprises.
Wuxi Children's Palace has launched a teaching site at the Bodu River Cultural Center in WND. Combining education, activities, services, exchanges, exhibitions, and entertainment, the new site will boost local youth's skills and overall development.
The first 300 Grade 10 students have settled into the transitional campus of Jiangsu Tianyi High School's WND branch. The new campus is under rapid construction, with the main buildings topping out in September and full delivery expected by August 2026. Once completed, it will cover 117,000 square meters and accommodate 3,600 students in 72 classes.
The new Lihua East Road (Jinghui West Road–Huayi Road) project in WND has completed its planning, design, and site selection, with construction set to begin by the end of 2025. It will provide better access to E-Quality Intelligent Technology's HQ and surrounding areas, improve infrastructure, enhance the environment, and spur land development and renewal.
