Wuxi National Hi-Tech District powers ahead in integrated circuits

The 13th China Electronic Production Equipment Industry Association Semiconductor Equipment Annual Conference opened in Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) on Sept 4, once again putting a spotlight on the district's thriving integrated circuit sector.

In 2024, WND's IC industry recorded an output value of over 170 billion yuan ($23.87 billion), representing three-quarters of Wuxi's total, one-third of Jiangsu's, and nearly one-ninth of China's. The district has been ranking second nationwide among IC industrial parks in overall strength for three consecutive years.

WND has built a complete industrial chain that spans design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, equipment, components, and materials. More than 500 IC enterprises are now based in the district, with output expected to surpass 300 billion yuan by 2030.

Technological innovation is at the heart of this progress. Many local companies are moving into high-end segments of the industry and winning international recognition. Smart Memories Technologies, headquartered in WND, was recently listed among the world's top five ferroelectric random access memory suppliers in a report by QY Research, the only Chinese company to be recognized.

WND's strong industry ecosystem and improved business environment continue to attract IC firms and major industry events. The Semiconductor Equipment Annual Conference, a highly sought-after event across China, has chosen WND as its host for four consecutive years. During this period, exhibition space has grown from 8,000 to 60,000 square meters, with more than 1,000 booths, underscoring both the event's and WND's rising influence.

With its strong foundation, complete ecosystem, and innovative drive, WND is cementing its role as one of China's most dynamic centers for integrated circuit development.
